Golden leaves, crisp air, and laughter filled the day as Globe Cambridge School students ventured to Applewood Farm in Whitchurch-Stouffville (12416 McCowan Rd, ON) for an autumn day of discovery, connection, and reflection.
What began as a simple apple- and pumpkin-picking trip soon blossomed into something far more meaningful—a celebration of curiosity and community. As students wandered through rows of apple trees heavy with fruit, they found themselves engaged not only in nature’s rhythm but also in deeper thought.
“When you pick an apple,” one student wondered aloud,
“is that the end of its life—or the beginning of another?”
This thoughtful question sparked an impromptu conversation about cycles in nature, the meaning of growth, and how endings often make room for new beginnings. For teachers and classmates alike, it was a moment that beautifully reflected the GCS philosophy—learning that begins in the classroom, but truly comes alive in the real world.
Beyond picking apples and pumpkins, GCS students demonstrated the spirit of service that defines our school community. When visitors arrived looking for directions to the orchard, our students eagerly stepped in to help, guiding families and sharing what they had learned about the farm. It was a small but powerful act of kindness—showing that leadership often starts with empathy.
The day ended with hands full of apples and hearts full of joy. As the sun set over the fields, many students paused to capture the moment—an image not just of autumn’s beauty, but of what GCS aims to cultivate in every learner: curiosity, reflection, and compassion.
At Globe Cambridge School, experiential learning is more than just a field trip—it’s a journey of understanding, gratitude, and growth.
